Deforestation also has a major effect on soil. Deforestation causes soil erosion which can make soil far less efficient and even unusable. One way soil erosion happens is after the trees roots die then the soil isn’t held down. When it’s not held down rain can wash away the small amount of topsoil. Topsoil is the surface soil that is the best for plants so if it is affected then whatever is grown there will be affected to.
Places with extreme soil erosion have some serious effects. Madagascar has gotten so bad that the soil erosion has changed the river color to blood red. Astronauts have reported saying that it looks like Madagascar is bleeding out. The blood red rivers flow out into the Indian Ocean and effect that to. The ocean was dyed red in a large area.
After trees are cut down the soil is affected which affects people and the ecosystems near the area. Many economies need agriculture for income and soil erosion is hurting it. When an area is cleared their is nothing there but bare soil. Soil that without anything holding it down will be washed away after the next rain storm. Once the topsoil is washed away it is very difficult for anything to grow whether there crops or planted trees.
I think that the soil effect is terrible especially knowing that topsoil takes a very long time to be naturally replaced. This aftereffect of deforestation is also why we can’t do what everybody says and just plant more. If the soil is affected then we can’t just plant more trees without doing it properly. If done right then trees can be cut down and replanted but if not done right then a once green area could end up like a lifeless wasteland. So if anyone thinks that it's not a problem then they could be wrong.
